Marriage Encounter is a positive weekend experience designed to give
married couples the opportunity to learn and practice a technique of loving
communication that they can take home and use for the rest of their lives. |

The emphasis of the Marriage Encounter weekend is on the private
communication between husbands and wives. This is accomplished by providing
an environment for couples to spend time together, away from the distractions
and tensions of everyday life, and by encouraging them to focus on each other
and their relationship. |

The Marriage Encounter weekend is a structured program that
develops a technique of communication throughout the weekend. Couples listen to
presentations by a clergy couple and a lay couple. Each presentation
consists of personal sharings explaining some aspect of the communication
technique. |

...that builds! |
Each presentation builds upon one another. First,
couples take a look at themselves as individuals. Then, they look at
themselves as a couple. From there, they explore their coupleness and what
God desires for their marriage. Finally, couples explore the effects of
their marriage relationship on those around them, including the effects on their
church. |
|
|
Following each presentation, the couples are given a question to help them
reflect individually on their own relationship. After a short personal
reflection time, couples share what they have discovered together in the privacy
of their own room. This process of presentation, personal reflection, and
private couple sharing is repeated throughout the weekend as the couples are
given the chance to look deeply into their relationship with each other and with
God. |

Marriage Encounter is a unique approach aimed at revitalizing marriages
and is recommended for good marriages. A good marriage is not a marriage
without difficulties, but it is a marriage in which the husband and wife are
committed to each other in love. The Marriage Encounter Weekend is a time for
couples to share their feelings, hopes, and dreams with each other. |

Marriage Encounter is NOT
a married couples retreat, marriage clinic, group dynamic experience,
sensitivity training, behavior modification, or a recruiting drive for any
church! It is also NOT a substitute for counseling.
If a couple is seeing a counselor for marital problems, they should complete
their counseling before signing up for a Marriage Encounter weekend. |

In summary, Marriage Encounter is a positive weekend
experience providing a time to
focus on one another without distractions. It is a private weekend, not a
group encounter, where each husband and wife share privately with one
another. It is a total package experience involving the husband and wife
for the entire weekend. It is conducted by dedicated volunteer clergy and
lay couples. Marriage Encounter is a time for couples to be alone
together, to rediscover each other, and together focus on your relationship for
an entire weekend |
