Worldwide Marriage Encounter was originally developed by the Roman Catholic Church as a means to strengthen marriages and ultimately the church. With the success of Marriage Encounter in the Catholic Church, the Catholics began supporting the spread of Marriage Encounter to their Protestant brothers and sisters. With Worldwide Marriage Encounter assistance, various faith expressions have been formed over the years. All Worldwide Marriage Encounter faith expressions use a common framework with only theological adaptations.  At some level, these expressions are affiliated with Worldwide Marriage Encounter which provides for interfaith communication of ideas and practices.

In addition to Presbyterian, the following faith expressions also present Worldwide Marriage Encounter weekends: Anglican, Episcopal, Jewish, Lutheran, Mennonite & Brethren, Orthodox, Reformed, Roman Catholic, Seventh Day Adventist, and United Methodist.
